1.11 The tank is the correct type
Check that the tank container is appropriate and approved for the carriage of the product concerned and
has been maintained, regularly inspected and tested in accordance with all the requisite regulations.
1.12. The tank interior and exterior are clean
Check that the exterior of the tank (especially the labels and markings) is not contaminated with or
obscured by cargo spillage. Check the tank has a valid Cleanliness Certificate and the interior is
clean.
1.13 The tank is labeled
Check that correct identification, hazard warning labels, marks and signs (in accordance with United
Nations International Standards and any applicable regulations) are fitted. Labels that are no longer
applicable must be removed.
1.14 The gross weight restriction is not exceeded
The gross weight (payload + tare weight) must not exceed the maximum design gross weight marked on
the tank or the maximum safe load of the equipment handling the tank container.
1.15 The maximum weight restriction is not exceeded
The gross weight of the vehicle when loaded with the tank must not exceed (a) the maximum design gross
weight limitations imposed by the regulatory authorities on the mode of transport being used, (b) the road
limit imposed by individual countries, states, Federal Governments or local authorities.
1.16 The tank is filled correctly
The ullage (free space in loaded tank) must comply with the relevant regulations for the code under which
the tank is being operated i.e. ADR, RID, IMDG, DOT, etc.
1.17 All operations are competently supervised
The personnel in charge of loading and discharge must have written instructions detailing the safety
requirements and emergency procedures in relation to the handling of the cargo and must have been
trained to the required level of competence.
1.18 Suitable equipment is available
Check that the loading and discharge equipments (hoses, couplings, gauges, pumps, compressors etc.) are
in good order and suitable for the product to be handled with regard to compatibility, pressure and
temperature rating.
1.19 The gas or air supply is clean & dry
Ensure that any gas / air supply used for loading, discharge or blanketing will not react with the cargo.
1.20 Safe product handling(Varies from different cargoes)
The product manufacturer should be contacted for advice and information on the appropriate safety
standards. Depending on the hazard, some or all of the following may be required:
